Not much of a fan of the mighty Zep. Similar to listening to my grandma talk about her missing teeth a few hundred times. Mush mouth and predictable. These songs have been played so much that all of the original meaning and weight must have floated off to the 70′s never to return.
However, people here in Salt Lake City may find this boot interesting. It has really good sound after the first couple of songs. Soundboard recording except for ‘rock and roll’ and ‘communication breakdown’.
If you like Radiohead’s “Life in a Glass House” at the end of the Amnesiac album, you may want to check out the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. I would be amazed if Thom and friends were not listening to these sort of songs during the creation of the album.
Blitzen Trapper played at Kilby Court a week ago Friday. The singer looks like Perry Farrell, and one of the guitarists looks like Fozzie Bear from the Muppets. Also, they play a mean bird whistle.
The Rolling Stones song “Time is on my Side” was a cover of an Irma Thomas song (soul queen of New Orleans). Irma’s version was released in 1964 as the B-side for her single “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)”. The Stones version also came out in 1964, and again in 1965. Which version is better?
Mardi Gras / New Orleans mix. Where else can you find Professor Longhair, Clifton Chenier, the Wild Tchoupitoulas, Muddy Waters, and Louis Armstrong in one place? I tried to balance the zydeco, blues and funk with traditional New Orleans jazz.
