Post Halloween Apocalyptic World View – this mix is dedicated to the marketing team at OrangeSoda. The mix is framed by 8bit selections from the original Castlevania (at least in the US) on the NES platform.
Rocky Horror Picture Show – Sweet Transvestite
Download the 2010 Halloween playlist (vol 2) – Nosferatu Man.zip
- kinuyo yamashita – prologue (ost castlevania).mp3 :: one of my favorite games growing up
- rolling stones – sympathy for the devil :: possibly influenced by “The Master and Margarita” – a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov.
- oingo boingo – heard somebody cry :: I put this on for Rob. I tried to avoid the most obvious oingo boingo halloween options. The chorus has a great, memorable melody.
- iron and wine – the devil never sleeps :: I believe Dan likes this band, maybe Alfred does as well. Catchy song.
- tim curry – sweet transvestite (ost rocky horror picture show) :: This one’s for Greg. If he hasn’t watched it yet he should.
- beck – vampire voltage no. 6 :: wait for the end.
- pink floyd – lucifer sam :: my favorite version of the band. I remember buying this album in 10th grade because it was supposedly influenced by Tolkien. The “Wind in the Willows” had a much larger impact on Syd Barrett IMHO. I read that book to my children because of this album (Piper at the Gates of Dawn).
- cut copy – so haunted :: Rianf is a fan. He probably will never make it through this collection. Too bad.
- buck owens – (it’s a) monster’s holiday :: Also for Greg. Probably the closest I will come to his genre of music
- of montreal – chrissy kiss the corpse :: great live band
- green on red – abigail’s ghost.mp3 :: Andy likes them.
- neil young – vampire ghost :: I remember when this album (On the Beach) was impossible to find on cd.
- xtc – the ballad of peter pumpkinhead :: xtc always has great melodies.
- kinuyo yamashita – wicked child (ost Castlevania)
- tyrannosaurus rex – cat black (the wizard’s hat) :: I think Andy is a fan.
- british sea power – no lucifer.mp3 :: Dan perhaps, Alfred for sure. To be honest i first listened to this band because of their name.
- japan – halloween :: obvious influence on duran duran’s first and second albums. Lush, hypnotic sound.
- kokomo arnold – old black cat blues (jinx blues).mp3 :: Kokomo Arnold was born in 1901 in Lovejoy’s Station, Georgia. Recorded blues records in the late 30′s in Chicago – 88 sides in total. Stopped making music in 1938. Died from a heart attack in 1968. Named after a brand of coffee.
- shonen knife – devil house
- grateful dead – friend of the devil :: this band was so much better pre hippy-noodling-endless jam stage.
- kinuyo yamashita – heart of fire (ost castlevania)
- pearl jam – satan’s bed :: Ashley’s favorite band. I blame the whip.
- cat power – werewolf :: I believe this is a cover of the Michael Hurley song.
- blue oyster cult – nosferatu :: Rob and maybe Andy as well.
- slint – nosferatu man.mp3 :: Want to know where Korn got their sound from?
- whiskeytown – what the devil wanted :: Alfred I think? Better than Ryan Adams’ solo stuff for sure.
- kinuyo yamashita – ending (ost castlevania)
Kokomo Arnold – Milk Cow Blues
Aerosmith – Milk Cow Blues (cover) – 1977
