Karen Carpenter = drummer
2009/05/12
Little known fact #1: Karen Carpenter played drums.
Cover versions from the “If I Were a Carpenter” album:
- Bettie Serveert – For All We Know.mp3
- Sonic Youth – Superstar.mp3
- Shonen Knife – Top Of The World.mp3

Little known fact #2: Tom Bahler (songwriter) wrote the song “She’s Out of My Life” after Karen Carpenter broke up with him because she discovered that he had fathered a child with a married woman (wikipedia). Michael Jackson’s version of the song was released in April 1980 reaching #10 on the Billboard charts. Is Michael thinking of Karen as he chokes up at the end of the song?
“She’s Out Of My Life”
[1st Verse]
She’s Out Of My Life
She’s Out Of My Life
And I Don’t Know Whether To Laugh Or Cry
I Don’t Know Whether To Live Or Die
And It Cuts Like A Knife
She’s Out Of My Life
[2nd Verse]
It’s Out Of My Hands
It’s Out Of My Hands
To Think For Two Years She Was Here
And I Took Her For Granted I Was So Cavalier
Now The Way That It Stands
She’s Out Of My Hands
[Bridge]
So I’ve Learned That Love’s Not Possession
And I’ve Learned That Love Won’t Wait
Now I’ve Learned That Love Needs Expression
But I Learned Too Late
[3rd Verse]
She’s Out Of My Life
She’s Out Of My Life
Damned Indecision And Cursed Pride
Kept My Love For Her Locked Deep Inside
And It Cuts Like A Knife
She’s Out Of My Life
- Michael Jackson – She’s Out of My Life.mp3
- Michael Jackson – Working Day and Night.mp3: since the above song is fairly lame I included the best song from his best album (Off the Wall). Great horns.

(Note – What Michael Jackson wanted to be before the transformation:
- Stevie Wonder – Superstition.mp3
- Stevie Wonder – I Believe (When I Fall In Love).mp3: both songs from the Talking Book album. )
Drums on Metallica’s St. Anger – I actually like the bizarro tunings and timbre’s of the “drums” on this album. They are probably the only thing I do like about it.
One additional Metallica song from their new album because it is their best stuff since “And Justice for All.”
